BAFTA winners State of Play Games in collaboration with 11 bit studios will likely be guilty of pulling on everyone’s heartstrings with their new title, South of the Circle. After garnering nominations at the Apple Design and DICE Awards, this emotionally-charged adventure-narrative game aims to bring forth a unique experience involving memories, survival, and the past coming back to haunt us.
The game follows the life of Peter, a Cambridge academic who finds himself lost in Cold War Antarctica. While on this cold, merciless journey, he has flashbacks from his past–childhood up until present. This gives us a clearer perspective of how Peter came to be, and fleshes out much of his backstory. One key highlight involves his budding love story with fellow academic Clara–a very special someone with whom most of his feelings and affections lie.
While mostly narrative in nature, players can expect a fair amount of content to unfold–especially with the nuanced emotional choices one would need to make. With fully motion-captured performances, and a distinct art style, there’s much intrigue to be had while playing this game.

When one requires an emotional performance, we need not look further.
