A free update, available now, has added same-sex partners to the Furi developer’s Narrative RPG Haven.
Haven is a third-person role-playing game with survival elements. The game is about two lovers, Yu and Kay, who escape an uninhabited planet named Source. The player(s) can control either character or co-op with another person to search for resources to repair the Nest, the only way off the planet. The two main characters are equipped with a pair of antigravity boots to navigate the world and glide on “flow threads”. Occasionally, players will encounter opposing rusted creatures. The game features real-time combat, requiring players to coordinate and use Yu and Kay’s abilities. At the Nest, players can create new items, relax and heal, and create food using the resources and ingredients collected around the world.
Now, with this new update, players can choose to play as either a heterosexual or homosexual couple, either a woman and a man, two women or two men. This includes all-new designs in both the 3D art and 2D assets, as well as all-new voices (by Lexie Ann Kendrick and Ryan Highley).
The team at The Game Bakers feel that this is a very special update. Creative Director Emeric Thoa explains “Haven is about the freedom to love whomever you want. From the very early days of conception, we had created several couples for the game, with a diverse range of relationships. But the constraints of our indie team production made us focus on Yu and Kay only. After the game launch, we wanted to go back and work on this update. We hope that many players will feel better represented in the game.”
This update allows for more options for composing the main couple, but does not change the story in any meaningful way. The developers have assured that the new alternate characters have been recreated to the standards of quality of the original release.
The free update is available now on PC platforms, as well as PlayStation 4/ 5, as well as Xbox One and Series X|S. If you buy the game right now it’s 40% off. Steam
