On June 2nd Sony aired their latest State of Play presentation, it’s kinda like a Nintendo Direct for those who don’t know. Over the course of the 30 minute presentation there was a lot of announcements for PSVR2, including a new trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2, sequel to one of the best VR games on the market, as well as Horizon: Call of the Mountain, a Horizon game made exclusively for VR. There were also big AAA announcements like Resident Evil 4 Remake, a new trailer for Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6. But what really stuck out to me about this presentation was how they mixed huge AAA titles with smaller Indies and other self-published titles that we’ll be looking at now.
Here’s all the Indies we got a fresh look at in the June 2nd State of Play:
Tunic
Tunic is coming to PS4/5 on September 27th after a successful PC and Xbox release, it’s good to see this title coming to more players.

Coming August 4th, this cel-shaded title looks like Roller Champions meets My Friend Pedro in a crazy arena fighter/shooter with some crazy visual and aural aesthetics.
Eternights
Action game/dating sim Eternights has been announced for PS4/5. Blending a love story with insane combat the game centres around a group of young people making the most of life during the apocalypse.
Stray
It’s the cyberpunk cat game again! With a solid July 19th release date on it now, this mysterious puzzle/exploration game has you playing as a stray cat; lost, alone and separated from your family, you must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city and get home.
Season: A Letter to the Future
Every time we see this game I feel like I know less about it. This mysterious photography sim looks stylish and emotional, sombre and beautiful. You explore a strange world and discover it’s secrets, we don’t have a solid release date for it yet, but this is one that’s often overlooked and you should definitely keep your eyes on.
The Callisto Protocol
YES!! FINALLY!!!! Whilst we wait for the Dead Space remake, this game is definitely going to scratch that itch. Dead Space 2 is my favourite game of all time and seeing how the art design, especially in how the camera and lighting are treated, is so reminiscent of that series made me very happy. This is one of my most anticipated titles for the entire year and we have a release date on our hands now; December 2nd!
