If you’re the type who loves metroidvanias, but doesn’t feel any love for that classic side-scrolling aesthetic, then you’re in for a treat. Indie game studio Platonic Partnership is bringing quite the first-person experience with their new game, Voltage High Society
Showcasing a 90’s cyberpunk horror and metroidvania gameplay, the game draws much of its inspiration from classics like Tetsuo: The Iron Man, and Escape From New York–a film that’s been an inspiration for quite a few others.
The plot, as simple as it is, follows you on a journey as a nameless prisoner thrown into a mysterious, techno-themed island crawling with vicious cybernetic monsters. The course of action is equally simple: fight your way through, make use of an array of weapons and abilities, and just like the aforementioned New York, escape. Hopefully, alive.
It boasts quite a lot of gritty retro graphics with a modern touch. With fast-paced and unique combat, and puzzle mechanics to bring about more of a challenge, you’ll be doing a bit of exploring and even more fighting. Metroidvania at its finest.
