The launch of Solar Ash has been delayed until December this year, the development team has confirmed.
This comes as the second game from Heart Machine, the Los Angeles-based creators of the 2016 award-winning game Hyper Light Drifter.
Set in a surreal, stylised world of vivid environments and enormous monsters, players must traverse their way through the world with high-speed gliding and energetic platforming to descend into the Ultravoid.
Solar Ash is published by Annapurna Interactive, the publishing studio behind recent games such as The Artful Escape and the dramatic top-down puzzle game, Twelve Minutes.
What Do We Know About Solar Ash So Far?
Solar Ash is a gorgeous 3D platformer set in a huge surreal world inside a black hole, known as the Ultravoid. Players enter the world as Ray, a Void Runner, who has arrived in this desolate place to save her homeworld.
“At its core, Solar Ash is a game about movement,” says Heart Machine’s Creative Director, Alx Preston. “Ray has everything she needs to flow through this unique world.”
Movement around the landscape is achieved mostly by fluid gliding and agile skating at high speeds. Typical platforming mechanics like climbing, jumping, and obstacle-dodging are paired with less conventional methods, like swinging Tarzan-style between light sources using Ray’s special abilities.
The combat system also seems simple but effective, focused on high speed and fluidity to easily dispatch the haunting enemies in your path. Boss battles take place atop giant beasts, where players must stay alert and in the flow of movement to defeat each creature.

Why The Delay For Solar Ash?
Both Heart Machine and Annapurna Interactive have stated that Solar Ash has been delayed in order for the team to finish off some small niggles and give players the best experience for the new game.
“We want Solar Ash to shine, and we need a bit more time to get the last pieces of polish and bug fixes into the game, while still navigating this global pandemic as a highly dedicated team,” says the statement from Heart Machine. “This short delay will help us get there.”
Where Can I Play Solar Ash?
